This being the last World Dance at Lydd this year
there was no chance on earth that we were going to
miss it. Reaching Ashford we saw the massive beam of
light glowing in the cold night air.
Once at the venue we saw the queue and thought
“shit”, it was long, longer than long. However if
you are members or ladies then you are sorted,
straight in - no problems! There was also a massive
bonfire to keep the masses warm. The security were
as usual safe as pie, although some showed too much
attitude (we are the customers) a quick search and
wallop we were in ready to brok out to the sounds of
Swan-e who absolutely tore down the place with some
rough jungle tunes.
The first thing I noticed about the venue was that
the stage area was on the left as you walking in
with the DJ right in the middle so the crowd could
see him. With Fearless on the mic the hanger was
bubblin’ to the mix. New light had been put on the
side of the venue as well as at the front and at the
back, I have never seen this before and trust it to
be World Dance to spare no expense in pleasing the
already freezing crowd. However once we have found
our space and started top dance we soon warmed up.
To be honest we could have warmed up on the
atmosphere - massive respect to all the ravers who
attended.
At One o’clock the most amazing thing happened,
Mickey Finn took his place upon the decks and ‘oh
gosh’ the place exploded with fireworks and bombs
and 8000 people rushed their head off! I didn’t
think that World Dance could better last years
effort. The “Warp 9” VIP Remix by Rude Boy Monty on
Frontline Records played and the fireworks blew my
face off, and they were all going off in time for
the music. The massive flames on the stage warmed
everybody up, and the fireworks exploded on the
ceiling, and as they kicked off the sparks flew, the
flames blew and we were boosted into another dancing
dimension.
Micky Fin’s set was top class, no wonder he is the
World Dance resident he knows how to rinse some
tunes. Another thing I noticed about the rave was
the speakers - boy were they louder than last time!
After two hours frantic dancing it was time to
chill-out and make some friends. This being my eigth
WD I did see a lot of people I knew, but more people
to know is always better. I made the mistake of
going on the meteor which for me is always a bad
thing, once it had finished I didn’t know where I
was, dizzy, feeling ill but once back inside the
venue I soon started buzzing.
Dougal & Vibes were picking up the pace with some
happy hardcore where all the white glove crew came
out of the side of the venue and just went mental. I
must say their mixing wasn’t as good as usual but
the crowd didn’t care, they were loving it.
When Sy came on the happy vibe continued and the
scratch master brought the atmosphere up to fever
pitch with his spot on mixing and choice of tunes. I
have to say something about the lighting at this
point, because during Sy’s set the laser system and
lights were at war with each other, I never have I
seen it before!
In my own personal opinion I found LTJ Bukem set not
up to scratch, he would be better placed in the
chill out rather than the main arena. Don’t get me
wrong he is class, but after such manic sets it just
seemed out of place. Book him for the chill out all
night - now that would be top class! Whilst on the
subject of the chill out could we have some carpet
on the floor to keep our butt’s warm, especially on
a cold night like this!
Kenny Ken! Kenny Ken! Kenny Ken! He absolutely tore
the place to pieces, this man is the god, no wonder
he is the Jungle Soundclash champion. With good
quality GQ on the mc I didn’t think it could get any
better but it did.
Does it sound like I am bigging World Dance up to
much? Favouritism, bias, bollocks. I rate World
Dance as the best promoter. I rate World Dace as the
best promoter out there, what they do they do
entirely for the scene, for the ravers, and
completely value for money. Production is always top
class, the line-up you can’t find a fault with.
Unfortunately I didn’t get a chance to visit the
house room as I had promised myself I would do, but
I managed to get a few comments off those mad people
inside who were havin’ it all night. Apparently the
best set came from the world renowned Tall Paul
Newman who was sending the crowd into a frenzy.
Back to the main arena where Hype was the last set,
and he certainly lived up to everybody’s
expectations with GQ and Fearless bigging WD’s New
Years Eve bash to the max - remember The London
Docklands. Hype was scratching it up to “31 Seconds”
which went down well with the crowd, and when the
final whistle blew nobody wanted to leave which left
the security a little dis-gruntled, but everybody
left quietly and there didn’t seem to be much for
the posse of Police Officers to do surrounding the
venue.
OK, the final statistics, how did we rate World
Dance? 10 out of 10, tip-top, unbeatable. What can I
say, just make sure you don’t miss the New Years Eve
bash, it will be better.
Peace and Out!
